One system, every page.
Every colour, size and component on this page comes from Automatic.css settings and the kit's component classes. Change a setting and the whole kit follows. This kit is direction D: the ledger. Warm paper, ink, one oxblood accent, hairlines and serif numbers.
Ink on paper. Oxblood is the only accent: numbers, links, eyebrows, and the consultation band. It never carries a button.
Body text and a button take their colours from the band, not from the component.

What happens on the first call
Card names and small headings
Italic is for the client's words only.
Lead text sits under a headline and says the one thing the section is about.
Body text is Instrument Sans at 18px, line height 1.55. Headings are Instrument Serif at its one weight, tracked slightly tight, with line heights just under one. Inline links look like this link to the practice areas.
Small text for captions, dates, the disclaimer and notes under buttons.
Eyebrow label, the literal section headingPrimary is ink on paper, square, weight 500; on hover the oxblood sweeps in from the left. Outline in ink. Text links are oxblood with an underline that thickens on hover.
Results as a ruled ledger: a serif figure, the matter in one line. Beside the headline on Home, wide with a summary on the results page.
The practice index: numbered rows with hairlines, a wash and a moving arrow on hover, a sticky photo beside it that swaps to the hovered practice. Sections carry their number in the gutter.
They told us on the first call that we would probably lose the injunction and win the contract claim. That is exactly what happened, and the bill was within two hundred dollars of the estimate.
Most resolve in six to twelve months. A case that goes to trial in Mecklenburg County takes eighteen months to two years from filing. We tell you which track you are on at the first call and again whenever it changes.
For some business and employment claims, yes, when the damages are clear and documented. Family, estate and real estate matters are hourly or fixed fee. We tell you the fee structure before you decide to hire us.
Images sit in figures with fixed ratios and square corners. Captions in small text under the figure, like a printed page.
